Welcome to recital 2002 "There's No Business Like Show Business".  Hopefully, the following information will provide everyone with a clear picture of what Recital is all about and how everyone can help to make this a wonderful experience for all of our children.  Please read this information carefully and go over it with your children so they know what is expected of them.  Remember that only Volunteers will be allowed to stay backstage during Rehearsal and Recital.  If you feel that your child will not be able to stay backstage without you present, then you need to sign up as a Volunteer (space is limited).  Recital is an exciting and sometimes stressful event for everyone.  Try to be respectful and patient with each other and follow the rules and guidelines set forth.  The rules, forged over many performances, are taken seriously and have been created for our children's safety.  Please be kind to the Teachers, Volunteers  and Theater Staff  as they are doing their best to make your child's recital a happy experience.  Have fun and remember what a special day this is for your Dancer!  GOOD LUCK!   Christina

The following classes have a full or partial reimbursement:
Hip Hop 2, Teen Hip Hop - Thursday, Teen Hip Hop - Tuesday. Please check with the office if you have not already adjusted your account.  If your account is clear we will reimburse you, if you have an outstanding balance the amount will be applied.

Tuition: All accounts must be settled before Recital Rehearsal June 18th in order to perform in the School Recital.
June is a full tuition month (tuition is based on the School year September - June).

Absolutely no flash photography during Rehearsal or Recital - Video cameras are not allowed during the recital (theatre rules).  Parents may videotape at the Rehearsal. Flash photography can confuse and endanger the dancers on stage.

Recital Rehearsal  is Tuesday, June 18th at 5:30.   Rehearsal is mandatory and anyone not present will not be allowed to perform in the Recital Sunday, June 23rd at 6:00.  Dancers need to arrive at least 1 hour before the Rehearsal and Recital..  Parents need to take dancers backstage to their assigned group parent or teacher.  Parents can then go into the auditorium.  Only Volunteers will be allowed backstage, please respect this as it is for the safety of all of our children.  There is a Volunteer sign up sheet in the School lobby (space is limited).  Dancers need to stay backstage at all times.  Dancers are not allowed in the auditorium.

Rehearsal: The show is approximately 2 1/2 hours including intermission.  The purpose of rehearsal is to help prepare your child and make the Recital experience safe and enjoyable.  The more prepared he/she is, the more successful the show will be.  Please be patient and go with the flow.  Remember that everyone is doing their best and we will be trying our hardest to get everyone home as soon as possible.  I cannot guarantee the exact amount of time Rehearsal will take, but figure on 3 to 4 hours depending on how many Acts you are in.  We will run through the entire Act 1 and then run through curtain call (EVERYONE).  If all goes well, I will release dancers who are only in Act 1.  Parents need to wait in the auditorium for their child to be brought from backstage.  Parents are not to go backstage, this will cause a lot of chaos and we want to make sure each child gets to their parent.  Please be patient it is for their safety.  After the Act 1 dancers have been returned to their parents we will begin with Act 2 and follow the same procedure for bringing children to their parents.  On the day of Recital all dancers will remain backstage the entire show, including intermission.  At the end of the show we will bring dancers up in groups. Again, parents please do not go backstage.  All of the volunteers will have badges identifying them and the Theater ushers can also assist you if you have any questions.  If you are calm and patient your children will be calm and patient.

Recital:  The show is approximately 2 1/2 hrs including intermission.  Here are things you'll need and simple guidelines to follow:
1.
Do not eat in costumes!  If costumes get food on them the dancers will not be able to go on stage.  Bring water and snacks that are not greasy or staining.  Colored juices should be avoided completely.

2.  Bring games and coloring books and snacks to keep dancers entertained and energetic, this really helps the time fly. NO ink markers!  If it is possible we will provide a video for children them to watch.

3.  Make-up and Hair:  Neutral reds and browns for lip liner , blush, lipstick and eyes.  Black for eyeliner and mascara.  NO Pinks! Lip liner is recommended and really helps the lipstick stay on.  The Theater lights wash out facial features considerably, so make-up should be heavy.  Use hair nets, hair spray and gel for hair that needs to be pulled back.  Watch out for hot curling irons around the small children.  If all of this is sounding foreign - never fear, we have a lot of Veteran Moms backstage that have survived many recitals and Nutcrackers.  Just ask for help!

4.  Costumes:  Keep costumes covered in plastic and put them on at the Theater.  Tutus (unless advised otherwise by your instructor) should be stored upside down.  Please make sure costumes are neat and not wrinkled (it does show from stage).  Costumes should be sewn (if you need help with this just let us know) no safety pins are allowed, please!  They can really hurt the dancers if they come undone.  After the show dancers can play in, sleep in or wear their costumes for many a Halloween!  Bringing extra tights is recommended, things happen.

5.  Backstage:  Please remember to stay as quiet as you can when backstage.  When entering the stage there is absolutely no talking! No running or rough housing.

6.  Personal Belongings:  Check for your personal belongings at the end of Rehearsal and Recital, we will bring any items found back to the School, but unclaimed items will eventually make their way to some charitable organization.  Every year we usually have enough items to fill your nearest thrift shop.
